A Visit To The Texas Troubadour’s Music Shop
Hallowed ground. That’s what Ernest Tubb Record Shop is to many country music artists. Right smack-dab in the middle of Broadway, this Nashville institution has been around since May 1947 and it’s still going strong. If you’re into Country-Western music, this is a place you have to visit. When Ernest Tubb was alive, he hosted the Midnite Jamboree from the shop every Saturday night immediately following the Grand Ole Opry, which was just around the corner at the Ryman Auditorium. The show featured all the greats from Dolly Parton to Elvis Presley. While the location has changed, the Jamboree continues and is now the second longest running radio show in history, behind the Opry. When you visit the shop, be sure to check out all the cool memorabilia near the old stage area. You can even have your picture taken with the cardboard cutouts of Tubb, Dolly and Patsy Cline.
Katy K’s Ranch Dressing in Nashville, Tennessee
So you find yourself in Music City USA and you want to take home a wardrobe that’s uniquely Nashville. But a cowboy hat and some boots just won’t do. You want to go all the way and dress like the stars of the Grand Ole Opry. Where to start? Well, one stop is all you need. Head on down to 12th Avenue South and pop into Katy K’s Ranch Dressing. This little boutique has made a name for itself for the rhinestones and sequins that used to define fashion in the country music industry not too long ago. At Katy K’s, anything goes…and the flashier the better. Each of the shop’s many rooms is filled with vintage kitsch. Styles run the gamut from Western and Rockabilly to Pinup and Burlesque. Even if a plaid shirt with a horseshoe applique isn’t exactly your cup of tea, Katy K’s is a great place to get a few chuckles. Who knows? While you’re there, you might just run into a country music star or maybe one of Nashville’s drag queens!
