Vintage Merita Bread Lone Ranger Sign
This 1954 vintage Merita Bread Lone Ranger sign is said to be one of the most sought after pieces of advertising among collectors. An original in mint condition can bring as much as $12,000 at high-end auctions. Experts say its vibrant colors, subject matter and deep embossing make it valuable. I spotted this one inside a booth at Renningers Antique Market in Mount Dora, Florida. While the owner was asking a hefty sum for the sign, it looked to be a reproduction.
SPOTTED DAY 39: 1950’s View-Master (Yeah, I Bought It!)
Who didn’t have a red plastic View-Master growing up? I’m a child of the 80s and can remember my mom handing me the View-Master along with several disks every time we took a road trip…just to keep me occupied. The down side for her was that she always had to buy me new disks with each new place we visited. I had quite a collection at one time. I have no idea whatever happened to the disks or the View-Master.
On our way back from Cedar Key last weekend, we stopped in the historic town of High Springs, Florida. This place is a mecca for antique hunters. Our last stop of the day was a shop called The Antique Center. After 15 minutes browsing the aisles, I ran across this case of old cameras. And in the back corner of the case sat this impressive looking View-Master from the 1950s. Not only was it the real deal, but it was sitting on the original box! Needless to say, I had to have it. It’s now sitting on a display table in my living room. And for those of you wondering, it still works. Now all I need are some disks. Anyone know where I can find them?
