Vintage Surf Culture at Lemongrass
Fernandina Beach, FL - There’s a little slice of Southern California in Fernandina Beach’s historic downtown. A boutique called Lemongrass opened in the former Last Flight Out location in late 2010 and has been hanging 10 ever since with its clever take on vintage surf culture. A lot of items for surfer girls here along with a nice selection of leather handbags and flip flops. For the guys, they stock a variety of Sanuks and Oakley sunglasses. It’s cool to go in and check out the always evolving interior, including a number of old surfboards carefully placed on the ceiling beams.
Lemongrass is located at 114 Center Street next door to the Christmas shop. It’s operated by the same people who own Driftwood Surf Shop on A1A. For more information on Lemongrass, visit their website.
Amelia Island: The Perfect Weekend Getaway
People who live in Orlando sometimes just want to get away from the theme park crowds and I-4 traffic. When you don’t have eight hours to drive to Key West, there’s a great alternative on the northeastern coast of Florida.
Located a short drive north of Jacksonville and right on the border with Georgia is a little place called Amelia Island. This 13-mile long island is home to some of the most pristine and well-maintained beaches in the Sunshine State and one of my all-time favorite locations for a weekend getaway.
